Witches Fingers seeds produce one of the most visually striking grape tomato varieties available to home gardeners. These deep crimson-to-purple, elongated fruits taper to a distinctive curved point — resembling slender, gnarled fingers — and cluster in generous trusses that make an immediate impression both on the vine and on the plate. Beneath the dramatic exterior is a rich, sweet-tart flavour with a dense, meaty texture and very few seeds, making every bite intensely satisfying. Brix levels run high, giving these tomatoes a concentrated sweetness that stands out among cherry and grape types.
Growing Guide
Witches Fingers is an indeterminate grape tomato that reaches maturity in approximately 75 to 80 days from transplant. Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost, sowing 6mm (¼ inch) deep in warm, moist seed-starting mix. Seeds germinate best at soil temperatures between 21–27°C (70–80°F). Transplant seedlings outdoors once nighttime temperatures remain consistently above 10°C (50°F).
Choose a site with full sun — at least 6 to 8 hours of direct light daily. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart in rows 90 to 120 cm (36 to 48 inches) wide. As an indeterminate variety, plants will continue to grow and produce throughout the season and will need sturdy staking, caging, or trellising. Regular pruning of suckers improves air circulation and concentrates energy into fruit production. Consistent moisture and well-drained, compost-rich soil will reward you with heavy, reliable yields.
Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate. Suitable for in-ground beds, raised beds, and large containers (minimum 20L/5 gallon).
Harvest & Use
Fruits are ready to harvest when they have deepened to a full dark crimson-purple and yield slightly to gentle pressure — typically reaching 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 inches) in length. Because they ripen in clusters, you can harvest individual fruits as they colour up or snip entire trusses for a striking presentation. The skin is thin but holds well, resisting cracking better than many sweet grape types.
In the kitchen, Witches Fingers shine roasted whole, where their natural sugars caramelise beautifully, or sliced lengthwise onto charcuterie boards and flatbreads. Their pointed shape makes an eye-catching addition to fresh salads and antipasto platters. They also dry and preserve exceptionally well — their low moisture content means oven-dried or sun-dried versions intensify in flavour without becoming tough.
Store harvested fruits at room temperature for up to a week; refrigeration dulls the flavour. For longer keeping, freeze whole after washing or preserve in olive oil.
A reliable, high-yielding variety that rewards attentive gardeners with season-long harvests and a tomato unlike anything found in a supermarket.
